Temperament: |
These dogs have a great temperament, easily get along other dogs if properly socialized, wonderful with children and very tolerant. |
Care: |
The smooth coats are easily cared for with little brushing and bathing required.
The longhairs are a bit more difficult, but almost as easy. They require some brushing, but shed less than the short coats. The wirehairs are about the same as the longhairs, but brushing is not quite as often. |
Training: | Easily trained, highly intelligent and sometimes too clever. Their intelligence will sometimes surprise you. |
Activity: |
Very energetic and need lots of attention. They do not need a lot of room, however, making them easily fit for city or apartment life. |
Description: |
The dachshund was developed by the Germans as a badger hunter. They would go into the holes of the badgers and flush them out for the hunters to kill. Today, dachshunds are mainly used for house companions, but still retain some of that natural instinct to dig, search and find. Owners will notice that dachshunds will dig into just about everything… the couch, the bed blankets, etc. |
